The Catholic Church now celebrates the season of Advent.
Advent is taken from the Latin term meaning arrival. The Liturgical Season of Advent is considered the beginning of the year for the faithful. It always contains four Sundays and ends on Christmas Eve.
Advent is viewed as a time of preparation, anticipation and hope as we prepare for the coming of the Christ child.
The liturgical colors are purple and violet.
It is winter here in Virginia.
Squash, Sweet Potato, Cabbage, Broccoli and Brussel Sprouts are now in season. Both winter and summer squashes are a member of the gourd family.
Some winter squash varieties may be found year round, but the widest variety and selection may be found in the fall and winter months. Squash should be firm and heavy for their size.
One of my favorite way to enjoy squash is to make Winter Squash Soup. It is creamy and delicious!
I also adore anything Sweet Potato I love to cook Chicken and Sweet Potato Tagine. A tagine is a Morracan cooking vessel. It is conical shape. It it like a old school slow cooker before we had electricity.
Brussel Sprouts are also in season. I personally think they get a bad rap. I love to cook mine with truffle Butter.
Peace be with you,
