Caramel apples are one of the best loved fall treats. Juicy tart apples smothered in homemade caramel. Could life get any better?
Making the gooey homemade caramel may be a bit time consuming but it is oh so worth it. Lets talk about sweet caramel wrapped around crisp tart apples. It is one of the best fall treats and you can make it at home. The idea for the caramel apples happened when they had some apples on sale at Walmart. They were original intended to be in the apple butter. I filled my slow cooker to the brim so there were no more room for anymore apples. I had 8 apples left. I thought about making a pie but I didn’t feel like doing a crust so I decided to do caramel apples.
It was a no brainer because I did have everything in my pantry. I love mine plane Jane. but if you like you could add nuts or other stuff.
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup corn syrup
1 stick salted butter
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla
8 apples any variety
Combine brown sugar, syrup and butter in a large saucepan over med-high heat. Stir to combine. When butter is melted, add in the condensed milk. Attach the candy thermometer bring to a full boil. Mix constantly until the mixture reaches 250 degrees on the candy thermometer. When the caramel is at the right temperature, remove the pan from the heat and add the vanilla.
While the caramel is hot dip the apples in the caramel and allow the excess drip off. Arrange the apples on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and allow to cool completely before serving.
